Weekend Waiver Wire: Setting up your roster for next week

Well, there are no hockey games this weekend for the fantasy realm with the All Star break in full swing. But, that doesn’t mean you cannot fine-tune your fantasy teams. In several of my personal fantasy leagues, there has been a lot of trade activity. Besides trading, you can also peruse the waiver wire for potential goalies that could be available in your league to help you out next week and possibly thereafter. We will take a look at a few today.

Petr Mrazek - Chicago Blackhawks We know the Blackhawks will not win many games the rest of the year, so Mrazek cannot help you there. He has gone 3-7-0 over the past 30 days. While the wins might not be there, the peripherals are not that bad considering the team that plays in front of him. In the aforementioned time period, he has a 2.22 GAA, 0.925 SV%, and 273 saves in 10 games played. Mrazek is 46% owned on Fantrax and 32% on Yahoo. He could be a decent pickup to boost your goalie categories in the near term and possibly long term if he can keep this level of play up. Be forewarned though, the team in front of him is atrocious, and there will be some very bad outings possible.

David Rittich - Los Angeles Kings The Kings have been struggling lately, with the culmination of them “relieving” their head coach Todd McLellan of his duties Friday. This shouldn’t affect the goaltending much, though. The new coach should go with the best option and hot hand to start his tenure off. This has been Rittich as of late. He has gone 3-1-1 over the last 30 days in the nine games that he has played. That span includes two relief appearances of Cam Talbot, as well as two shootout losses. In that timeframe, he has a 2.35 GAA, 0.920 SV%, and 219 saves. Sometimes, a coaching change can kick start a winning streak for the team (see Edmonton Oilers). If this is the case, and Rittich keeps things up, he could be a valuable asset in the near term, and possibly the long term. Rittich is 26% owned on Fantrax and 24% on Yahoo. If you need goaltending, he could be a viable option that is available.

As far as upcoming back-to-back spot starts, there are two teams early next week: The Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars.

Ivan Prosvetov - Colorado Avalanche Colorado plays @NYR and @NJD. Given the caliber of the opponents, and the fact that Prosvetov has started one game in the past 30 days, he is not a recommended start. His last outing, he was touched up for four goals in 28:50 of ice time.

Scott Wedgewood - Dallas Stars Wedgewood has been solid in the past 30 days. He is 2-1-2 in six games played with a 2.91 GAA, 0.895 SV%, and 136 saves. Both games for the Stars are road games. Wedgewood could draw either the Buffalo Sabres or the Toronto Maple Leafs in a matchup.
