Weekend Waiver Wire

Welcome to today’s edition of the weekend waiver wire. The fantasy playoffs are right around the corner. In one of my leagues, they started this week. It is a 24 team league with all Dobber Forum members, and is quite competitive. My lowly team managed to qualify for the mid-tier playoffs in this league, after a 16th place finish in the regular season. Last year (my first in the league) I finished 22nd, so this was a nice move up in the standings. My goaltending in this league was solid this year, sporting the tandem of Jordan Binnington and Joel Hofer for the St. Louis Blues. I also had Arvid Soderblom for the Chicago Blackhawks. Needless to say, Soderblom sat most nights! On that note, let’s delve into some lesser-owned options that can help you, starting with one of my own as aforementioned.

Joel Hofer – St. Louis Blues (39% owned on Fantrax and 12% owned on Yahoo)
Hofer is the backup to Jordan Binnington, but he has been solid in most of his starts. He has a chance to start either Saturday versus the San Jose Sharks or Monday versus the Edmonton Oilers. Obviously, one would prefer the Sharks, but either way, he should help you with a start at the end of this week or the beginning of next. In the past 14 days, Hofer is 2-0-0, with a a 2.00 goals against average, a 0.940 save percentage, and 63 saves.

Alex Nedeljkovic – PIttsburgh Penguins (24% owned on Fantrax and 13% owned on Yahoo)
Nedelkovic has been seeing starts over Tristan Jarry as of late, with the latter struggling. Pittsburgh doesn’t have much to play for other than pride this season, but they will still want to be competitive. If the Penguins ride the hot hand, Nedeljkovic could start Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets in a favorable matchup. Over the last 14 days, “Ned” has gone 3-0-1 with a 2.35 goals against average, a 0.915 save percentage, and 108 saves. If he doesn’t get the call Saturday, he still has a chance for an early week start for you on Monday against the New York Rangers.

Jake Allen – New Jersey Devisl (38% owned on Fantrax and 45% owned on Yahoo)
Somehow, Allen is still under 50% owned. He has been mentioned the last few weeks as a pickup, and this might be your last chance if he is still available in your league. Allen over the past 14 days is 3-2-0 with a 2.61 goals against average, a .920 save percentage, and 150 saves. He starts tonight against the Buffalo Sabres.
