Weekend Waiver Wire

Welcome fantasy managers to another edition of the Weekend Waiver Wire. It is time once again to take a look at what goaltenders may be available as a streaming option this weekend to help you take down your fantasy matchups. Let’s get to it!

Anton Forsberg - Los Angeles Kings (10% Yahoo / 17% Fantrax) [@PHI - Sat / @CAR - Sun]

I’ll assume that Darcy Kuemper will draw the start against Carolina on Sunday leaving backup netminder Anton Forsberg to face the Philadelphia Flyers on the road Saturday afternoon. Forsberg has been solid in his last two starts having posted a 2-0 record accompanied by a 1.00 goals against and .964 save percentage in addition to a 6.90GSAx. The Kings themselves are on a three game winning streak with a 4-2-4 record in their last ten games played. Meanwhile, the Flyers have struggled of late posting a 2-6-2 record in their last ten contests while being outscored by a 44-25 margin. All that being said, I like Forsberg in this spot and think he would be a solid add this coming weekend

Elvis Merzlikins - Columbus Blue Jackets (7% Yahoo / 24% Fantrax) [@CHI - Fri / @STL - Sat]

Elvis has been on a nice little run over his last four games played with a 3-1 record accompanied by a 2.25 goals against and .907 save percentage in addition to a 3.41 goals saved above expected. I would expect that he starts against the Blues on Saturday which is not a bad landing spot as St-Louis has been awful in their last ten games having posted a 2–7-1 record with several regulars out of the lineup. Conversely, the Blue Jackets are riding a three game winning streak while posting a 7-3-0 record over their last ten games played (a little coaching bump with Bowness perhaps?). The nail in the coffin for me would be the fact that the Blues have the league's worst offense at 2.43 goals per game played while simultaneously owning the league’s 27th ranked defense. Combine that with the fact the Blue Jackets offense has been on fire scoring 14 goals over the course of their three game win streak and I believe Merzlikins would be a nice streaming option this weekend.

Akira Schmid - Vegas Golden Knights (33% Yahoo / 52% Fantrax) [SEA - Sat / @ANA - Sun]

Another goaltender who has put together a solid string of games over the last couple weeks as Schmid has gone 4-1-1 over his last six games played with a 2.50 goals against and .899 save percentage in addition to a 3.59 goals saved above expected. My educated guess would be that Schmid will likely draw the start against the Kraken on Saturday at home, which feels like a very winnable game at home for the Golden Knights. Sure, the Kraken are on a modest two game win streak, however, Seattle has stumbled to a 4-5-1 record over their last ten contests and will need to ramp up their 25th raked offense in order to keep up with the Golden Knights offensive prowess (8th overall - 3.31 GF/GP). Fantasy managers may take a slight hit when it comes to Schmid’s peripheral numbers but I think he is a solid add off the wire for this weekend's upcoming matchup.

Frederik Andersen - Carolina Hurricanes (28% Yahoo / 34% Fantrax) [@WSH - Sat / LA - Sun]

Since December 23rd Frederik Andersen has posted a 2-3-2 record accompanied by a bloated 3.43 goals against and horrendous .855 save percentage in addition to a -1.34 goals saved above expected. That being said, the Canes seem to have a couple of winnable matchups against the Capital (3-6-1 in their last ten games played) and Kings (4-2-4 in the last ten games played) respectively this weekend. I would expect Andersen to draw the start against the Capitals on Saturday which isn’t the worst landing spot, the Caps have struggled recently and with the teams power play no longer a strength (26th overall - 16.9% efficiency) makes it that much more difficult against an extremely structured outfit such as the Hurricanes. All that to say, even with Andersen’s poor play recently, I would take a flyer on the big Dane simply on the strength of the team in front of him.
