Weekend Outlook: Lower-rostered goalies to consider in your playoff matchup

Happy Friday everyone! Hope those in playoffs right now are enjoying a comfortable lead as we head into the weekend, but if your matchup is close and you need lower rostered options in net we got you covered. With that let’s dive in!

Connor Ingram, Arizona Coyotes (Rostered in 1% of ESPN leagues, 20% Fantrax, 28% Yahoo) 25 starts, 6 wins, 7 OTL, 3.39 GA/G, .907 Sv%, 1 SO

I know this is the Coyotes we’re talking about but over the past few weeks I’ve caught a few of their games and I don’t think this club is as much doormat that they’re often made out to be. In their past ten games Arizona is 6-1-3, with their only loss in regulation by just one goal. Doesn’t mean I’d rush out and stack them in DFS (I’d even be leery of a filler stack), but this does give us a nice option here in net.

We’re in the trust tree here at GoaliePost and just between us friends here I have to say that Connor Ingram has just been better than Karel Vejmelka overall this season. Ingram has had a better high danger goals saved above average, high danger save percentage, and goals saved about average. I still like Vejmelka as a goaltender but was curious if Arizona would have moved on from him at the deadline as I think there might have been a market for him where they could have gotten something decent back in return.

Regardless of stats throughout the regular season, if Ingram is in net at all this weekend, I think he's worth the start. He’s lower rostered on most prominent fantasy sites and is an option for those searching the waiver for a potential start.

Joonas Korpisalo, Los Angeles Kings (Rostered in 68% of ESPN leagues, 51% Fantrax, 41% Yahoo) 26 starts, 11 wins, 3 OTL, 3.17 GA/G, .913 Sv%, 0 SO

Joonas Korpisalo has been great to start his tenure as a King, winning his first three contests in net allowing no more than two goals in each. His most recent start against the Vancouver Canucks he again only allowed two goals, but the Kings just couldn’t provide the offense for him to start out 4-0 with his new team. Still, this weekend he’ll be given at least one start and could make for an excellent quick addition.

The Kings will play on a back-to-back at home this weekend against the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues and my guess here is that Korpisalo is your Sunday starter. For those out there that may be waiting for the confirmation to come through closer to puck drop on Sunday, I will say that I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kings announce who will be in net both weekend days on Saturday, and it’s also safe to assume that neither Korpisalo nor Pheonix Copley would start both games.

Another benefit here is that if Korpisalo does start in net on Sunday that helps your roster on the day with less games available on the slate. It may come down to you being forced to potentially drop a true number one starter in order to save your fantasy season but just remember that from here on out there’s no tomorrow in the fantasy season.

Joel Hofer, St. Louis Blues (Rostered in 8% of ESPN leagues, 28% Fantrax, 29% Yahoo) 4 starts, 3 wins, 1 OTL, 1.74 GA/G, .944 Sv%, 0 SO

Could our guy Joel Hofer be the starter opposite Korpisalo on Sunday? I think there’s a roadmap to where he is and that just helps us out even more in fantasy. Hofer was solid again in net last night for the Blues against the Detroit Red Wings, allowing three goals on 28 shots, and I think it’s ideal to maybe add him on rosters that may be deeper in net than others. His roster numbers are still very low for the time being but I have to say if you would have given me 25 guesses on which goaltender could help you win your week two playoff matchup, I’d need another 25 and I might get to Hofer.
