Weekend Outlook: 3 starts to consider

Happy Friday everyone! There’s some good goaltending matchups set to take place tonight and all the way into Sunday, but out of all the spots there’s some that might be better than others.

Scott Wedgewood, Dallas Stars (Rostered in 1% of ESPN leagues, 15% Fantrax, 6% Yahoo) 15 starts, 7 wins, 3 OTL, 2.66 GA/G, .905Sv%, 0 SO

Jake Oettinger has gotten the majority of starts for the Dallas Stars and rightfully so, he has been excellent this season with a 23-7-8 record but with the Stars on a back-to-back this weekend it will likely be Scott Wedgewood in net. The Stars will be in action tonight against the Minnesota Wild at home, and then will fly home to welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets and it’s in that game that I think Wedgewood gets the start in net.

Wedgewood’s last start was on February 11th against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he looked alright giving up two goals on 28 shots, but this was coming off of not seeing action in seven straight games. I think he makes for a great lower rostered option this weekend as he is in a good place to earn a win against a club that is near the bottom of the barrel in overall standings. For DFS he’ll likely be more on the pricey side, but I think goes well with any Dallas power-play stack so long as you have a cheap filler stack to put with them.

Adin Hill, Vegas Golden Knights (Rostered in 25% of ESPN leagues, 54% Fantrax, 53% Yahoo) 20 starts, 13 wins, 1 OTL, 2.47 GA/G, .913Sv%, 0 SO

I don’t see a roadmap to Logan Thompson returning to the lineup this weekend so that leaves Adin Hill in line to start against Tampa Bay. Tampa is at the end of a very tough road trip this week in which they went into a shootout against Colorado and lost a close game against Arizona on a back-to-back. I think this could be a sneaky good spot here for the Knights at home.

I was a little underwhelmed in the Knight’s game last night against the San Jose Sharks, the top two lines weren’t nearly as effective as I thought they would be, but I still think that this club might be able to catch Tampa here on Saturday. For Hill, I think he’ll see decent volume and on a heavier Saturday slate I think he presents a great way to get unique in lineups.

Juuse Saros, Nashville Predators (Rostered in 96% of ESPN leagues, 98% Fantrax, 98% Yahoo) 40 starts, 20 wins, 5 OTL, 2.79 GA/G, .917Sv%, 1 SO

The Predators skaters have been subpar, the goaltending has been great, and that’s what’s keeping Nashville in the playoff picture and I think that going to Juuse Saros on Saturday is a great move in DFS or a must start in fantasy if you’re between him and another goaltender.

The Florida Panthers are one of the most penalized teams in the NHL which will help out Saros if Nashville gets to go four or five times on the man advantage. The Panthers are also shooting the most at even strength over the past month of the season, so even if Saros ends the game in a loss, he’ll likely make up for it with the amount of volume he’ll see.
