Welcome back to another edition of Thursday’s Best and Worst Fantasy Goalies. Last week we started off scorching hot with five accurate predictions on who to sit and start. Will the correct predictions continue? I don’t know either, but rest assured I’m bringing you the best goalie insight around. So, let’s get started…

Top Three Goalies to Start

Jake Oettinger - Dallas Stars

Coming in at the vaunted number-one spot is none other than Jake Oettinger of the Dallas Stars. Yes, the Otter is owned in all leagues and hopefully, you have him too, cause tonight he's a must-start. Some will say he's been an enigma so far this season, and they'd be right; but we aren't betting on the goalie, we're betting on the situation tonight. Dallas has a great defense and a great penalty kill, and their opponent, let’s just say the Anaheim Ducks are less than stellar. When you combine all those factors, you’ve got a decent chance at the Otter’s second shutout of the year.

Calvin Pickard – Edmonton Oilers

Coming in at number two, is Edmonton Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard. While not my original pick of Stuart Skinner, Pickard is still a perfect option with great upside. At seven percent owned on Fantrax, you want to pick him up tonight if you can. Remember, it’s about the situation and not the player. Edmonton is still playing against the Bedardless Blackhawks team at Rogers Place Arena. Chicago is an abysmal 4-21-1 on the road. The Oilers will have no problem carrying play and the game. Take the safe play and sure points. Expect a limited save total, between zero to two goals allowed, and an easy win for Mr. Pickard.

Filip Gustavsson – Minnesota Wild

The first two picks were safe, easy decisions. Sure, that’s the pragmatic approach, but I like my fantasy goalie picks like I like my significant others, risky and dangerous. That’s why for the third spot we find 85% Fantrax owned, Minnesota Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson. Has Gus met expectations this year? Nope. Have the Wild done anything to give me confidence in them? Not really, but hear me out. Winners of their last three, the Wild, are quietly, possibly, putting things together. Add in the fact that Gus has put together back-to-back quality starts and you've got the ingredients for something spicy. In that something spicy, I see an upside. Nashville will carry the play and get shots, while the Wild will try and limit their scoring chances. This is Minnesota’s MO. That creates many saves against, which then turn into fantasy points. You get the picture. Taking it even further, Vegas oddsmakers have the Wild as a small favorite, which means a possibility of the win bonus. It's these little edges that help win you your weekly match-up. Start the Gus man with confidence if you have him.

Goalies to Avoid

Connor Ingram – Arizona Coyotes

The first goalie to avoid is the Arizona Coyotes' own Connor Ingram. Is he having a great year? Of course, he is. Still, here at Bobby's Best and Worst Fantasy Goalies, we play situations, not players. Arizona is playing the back end of a back-to-back against a very dangerous opponent. An opponent that ices the best power play versus a tired team that already takes a lot of penalties as is. This is the exact type of situation you want to avoid. Search the waiver wire, and find a better option if you can.

Semyon Varlamov – New York Islanders

If you follow my Twitter, it's obvious, that I'm not a big fan of the Islander's new head coach. Sure, you will see plenty of articles about how excited Mat Barzal or Varly are about the hire, and I’m sure they are. The simple fact is Patrick Roy’s results in Colorado were terrible and I don’t expect him to do much better now. He's entering a disaster situation, with a terrible defense that hemorrhages high-danger scoring chances. Even a great coach couldn't do much in his situation. Until proven otherwise, avoid Islander goalies for the time being if you can.
