Monday Morning Ramblings featuring a commemoration to backup goalies!

At this stage the Kings haven't clinched a playoff spot but are in control of their destiny. They have an 80.3% chance of getting in. However, they seem to have lost confidence in their starter, Darcy Kuemper, at the most crucial moment of the season. 

After his 7-6 loss to Toronto, where he stopped a mere 14 of 20 shots (0.700%), Darcy Kuemper has not seen the ice for 3 consecutive games.

Anton Forsberg has performed impeccably, allowing only 4 goals in his last 4 games, posting 4 straight wins, with a GAA of 0.97 and 0.963% save percentage. The latest win: a 27 save shutout of the Edmonton Oilers (McDavid had 3 of those shots).

Kuemper is 0.892% on the season, and since March 1, 2016 his save percentage has trended further downward 0.877%.

Anton Forsberg has one of the best GSAx/60 (+0.326) in the league. His crease mate Kuemper is at -0.081 in all situations.

Other backups with better GSAx/60 numbers than the starters? That list includes Devon Cooley, Scott Wedgewood, Casey DeSmith, Alex Lyon, and Justus Annunen.

Jakub Dobes started as a backup but has claimed the top role. He is at +0.476 GSAx/60, which is 6th in the league (minimum 10 games played). Samuel Montembault was a workhorse last year, but might not even be with the Canadiens next year.

Acquiring Brayden Schenn and firing Patrick Roy wasn't enough to salvage the season for the Islanders. They lost to the Canadiens 4-1, and were officially eliminated from the playoffs. Nick Suzuki had 1 goal and 1 assist for points 100 and 101, vaulting him into the top 5 of league scoring!

It has been 40 years since Mats Naslund topped 100 points for the Habs.

With both of their right-shooting defenseman injured (Dobson and Carrier), the Habs called up David Reinbacher who picked up his first NHL point in 11:17 of ice time Sunday night.

The Avalanche have clinched the President's Trophy and may be resting some players over their last 3 games. Sam Malinski might get improved deployment and makes for a volume pickup in weekly leagues. He has games against Edmonton, Calgary, and Seattle from April 13-16.

After his big 4 point game, Celebrini has settled in below a point per game (5 in his last 6).

The only matchup that is already confirmed for the first round is the former Minnesota North Stars against the Minnesota Wild. In the season series, Dallas and Minnesota each won 2 games. Goals for and goals against is tied at 13 a piece in the 4 head to head games this season.

J.Korpisalo made 33 saves (0.943%) in a 3-2 regulation win against his former team, all but eliminating Columbus from the post season. The Blue Jackets have to win their last game and hope for a regulation loss for Washington, and two regulation losses for Philadelphia, in order to get in. Their playoff odds are 6.4%.
