Monday Morning Ramblings: Coming In Hot! ft. Wedgewood, Lindgren, Demko and More

Welcome fantasy managers to another week of the Monday Morning Ramblings. My apologies for the late post to this week's installment of the Ramblings - yours truly was able to fit in one last camping trip before the league really got cooking! Upon my return, I see that we have some interesting topics to delve into. So, without further delay…..

Let’s get to it!

Igor Shesterkin looks to be in mid-season form with a tidy first week of fantasy production posting a 2-1 record with an exceptional 0.67 goals against and .976 save percentage along with one shutout. Coach Mike Sullivan’s structure seems to be paying off in the early going (aside from being blanked at home in back-to-back games to begin the year), however, we all remember how this team started last year coming out hot with a 12-4 record only to have their season go off the rails. All that being said, the early returns are quite positive.

Speaking of coming out hot, Seattle Kraken netminder Joey D’Accord has had himself a great start to the year going undefeated in week one (2-0 record) with a phenomenal 0.96 goals against and .968 save percentage. Many fantasy managers adopting the Zezo G strategy must be rather pleased with D’Accord stuffing the stat sheet the way he did in week one, as I’m sure a few managers came away with a victory due solely to his performance in key categories.

I mentioned in my Weekend Waiver Wire piece last week to have a look at Charlie Lindgren as a potential streamer with the Washington Capitals playing back-to-back and boy did he come up big in his first outing of the year! Lindgren walked into Madison Square Garden and proceeded to blank the Blueshirts 1-0 with a stellar 35-save performance. The Capitals are expected to regress from a season where just about everything broke their way in 2024-2025, that being said, Lindgren still offers plenty of upside as a streaming option as this team isn’t just going to suddenly fall off a cliff. One may have to be a little selective when it comes to matchups but there is value to be had.

A big congratulations goes out to any fantasy managers who managed to secure the services of one Scott Wedgewood leading up to the start of the 2025-2026 NHL season. Quite simply, Wedgewood has been on fire to start the campaign as he is currently sporting a 3-0-1 record accompanied by a tidy 1.72 goals against and .936 save percentage. The play here is simple, until the return of incumbent starter MacKenzie Blackwood, managers should dress Wedgewood with confidence regardless of league format.

Vancouver Canucks fans have to be thrilled with the way Thatcher Demko has played up to this point as he has looked sensational in his two starts going 1-1 with a phenomenal 1.54 goals against and .944 save percentage. If Demko can remain healthy he’ll be a steal for several managers out there employing the Zero G strategy with a club that still has its sights set firmly on a postseason berth.

Last but certainly not least is one of the league's greybeards in Florida Panthers netminder Sergei Bobrovsky. A lot of ink was spilled on the demise of the Florida Panthers due to crushing injuries to star forwards Aleksander Barkov (out 7-9 months) and Matthew Tkachuk (out until mid-January), as good teams will do, the reigning champs are weathering the storm just fine with the tight checking style we have all become used to on top of some solid goaltending from their star netminder. Bobrovsky is shutting out all the noise surrounding the team's injury woes by amassing a 3-0-0 record with a sparkling 1.67 goals against and solid .925 save percentage putting any doubts to rest of a potential freefall.
