Manny Fernandez has been on the ice whenever the ice has been available. His off-season workout just didn't seem to be enough.
"I feel like I've done as much as I can," Fernandez said. "I came in early when we did goalie camps and did plenty of stuff so I would be ready to start the season. I definitely skated more this summer. I came to the rookie camp just to do the basic stuff but at the same time doing more qualified ice training. I did more on the ice type of things. I needed to be on the ice all the time."
Fernandez, at 34, is looking to prove himself this season. He has a big task ahead trying to out Tim Thomas, who has held the fort, and rookie prospect Tuukka Rask.
