Michael Leighton bounced around the NHL the last few years but settled in last season with the Hurricanes AHL team in Albany. He earned goalie of the year, however missed out on MVP to Jason Krog, after leading the AHL with seven shutouts and a .931 save percentage. The deal is worth $1.2 million split evenly a $600,000 each season.

Carolina placed John Grahame on waivers in January last season in the hopes he would be picked up and they could shed some of the $1.4 million contract. In May Grahame, a free agent, signed with Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia.
