MacDonald To Start Season On Injured Reserve

MacDonald hasn't been on the ice since August because of a bulging disc, but hopes to skate some time next week. It was reported that he will start the year on IR. While starter Jimmy Howard was injured last season, MacDonald won seven games in a row for Detroit before injuring his back on March 14. When Detroit acquired Jonas Gustavsson on July 1, MacDonald asked to be traded, but the Red Wings were unable to make a deal. When he returns, MacDonald will either be traded or placed on waivers and sent to AHL Grand Rapids. This verifies the "Monster" is the undeniable number 2 in Motown. With 12 back to back games do not be surprised if Babcock plays Gustavsson 15 plus times, keeping Howard fresh and seeing what they have with the "Monster."
